Description:
Neighborhood Ministries will be hosting the Encrucijadas
Resilience project that trains frontline workers, volunteers, and
leaders in trauma-informed psychosocial arts-based interventions. The
training provides information for substance abuse prevention, introduces
key coping skills for stress and resources for how to prevent,
recognize and respond to an Opioid drug overdose through Narcan.
Group leaders learn how to provide space for safety and
stabilization through the arts, group work, reflections, breath-work,
and movement activities that are connected to psycho-education best
practices. The arts have proven to aid in well-being and can form
pathways towards healing based on the growing field of neuroscience and
movement-based methodologies.
All training participants will receive a manual and toolkit with
activities that they can apply with individuals and groups right after
the training. Ongoing coaching and support will be offered.

Certificate Of Practice: This training is part of a 2-part series and offers a certificate of practice.
Part 1:
- 3 day training (in-person training due to methodology of working with groups)
- Implementation of Encrucijadas community group (*requirement to complete full training)
- Access to the Encrucijadas Community of Practice
Part 2: 1 day training: sharing of experiences, deepening learning & additional material provided
Cost: Free
Lunch: Participants can bring their own lunch,
or an optional paid lunch will be provided at a low cost of $10/day
which includes drink. Pre-registration for lunch selection is required
below and cash payments are due on the first day of the training.

Shabrae Jackson is an expressive arts
facilitator and educator with over 25 years of experience working in
diverse communities internationally and in the US. Her work focuses on
issues of belonging, trauma, healing and peace building. Shabrae has
extensive experience in implementing community projects and lived in
Mexico for over 15 years. She is the founder of Collective Tapestry, a platform that creates community laboratories for collective exploration and research through projects such as Geography of Hope, which combines the arts and peacebuilding, and co-founder of Umbral,
a Mexican group that provides arts-based psychosocial trauma training
to migrants and refugees on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Shabrae is a certified coach and holds certifications in
Conflict Transformation Training and Expressive Arts in Transition
(EXIT). She is faculty for the European Graduate School, co-coordinator
for the Expressive Arts and Global Health Program. Shabrae is an EXIT
trainer and supervisor. She has a BA in Social Work, a postgraduate
degree in Sport for Conflict Transformation and Social Coexistence from
the University of Catalonia, a master's degree in Expressive Arts for
Conflict Transformation and is currently a PhD candidate at the European
Graduate School.
Lyd Pensado is a PhD candidate who has a
master's degree in Divinities from the STPM and a master's degree in
Mental Health from the University of León, Spain. She also has several
postgraduate degrees in pastoral psychology, art therapy, psychological
first aid, and logotherapy.
Lyd is a spiritual director with PICI Mexico
working in the accompaniment of migrants and refugees and victims of
human trafficking for the last 10 years. She is the Executive Director
of El Pozo de Vida AC, co-founder of Umbral, and co-founder of Borra la Violencia AC.
Her main focus is on the restoration of trauma through the arts and the
development, exploration and restoration of spirituality; as well as
providing tools to people working with vulnerable groups, broadening
their perspective of intervention.
